cancer?

my cat's left eye area is swollen, and also gets kind of leaky. he has never had any problems except for his teeth, which caused something like this a few years ago. the vet decided to pull his tooth and clean the rest, and said they saw no signs of a tumor, but to call if the swelling didnt go down. its been 9 days and the swelling hasnt really gone down at all, but hasnt gotten worse. the vet now claims he may have cancer. the area doesnt bother him, he isnt bothered if you touch it, and hes still very much himself. could it be anything else, like conjunctivitis?
