Hamsters, like other rodents in the wild, occasionally injure a limb. Since these small animals rarely tolerate a cast or splint, it is best to let the animal heal on its own, which should occur rather quickly (2 weeks), as the inflammation subsides. Remove the exercise wheel. Avoid unnecessary handling your hamster. Natural immobility allows the limb to rest and heal. As long as the hamster is feeding, drinking water, grooming itself, and there no internal bleeding from the injury, recovery is likely underway. Now you might consider how the cage can be made safer. For example, tall cages increase the chance of a bad fall, so install shelves or climbing racks to shorten the distance.
