If your hamster won't eat, see if he drinks water (very important to prevent dehydration). Level of activity? Is he still running on the wheel or moving around? If he's still active that's a good sign. Sometimes a hamster may not eat because his digestive system is not right. So they take a break. Other times its a tooth problem, such as teeth overgrown, or crooked, or a mouth infection (take a look inside, should look pink not bloody red. The other thing is check for droppings...are they normal or has he stopped producing feces? If your hamster hunches up when he walks, then it's a digestion problem. When this happens they become inactive (sleep or rest alot). The tail area should be clean and dry, if wet, then take to vet for treatment. Good luck with your friend.
