Wet tail is a digestive disorder which can be fatal. The wet bottom, however, may be due to urinary infection too, that is, if you are not finding fecal matter that is normal looking--fairly fry, firm, and sausage shaped. Wet tail (the disease) really changes normal behavior, since the digestive tract is so upset. If you find the activity, such as feeding, exercising routine, and especially walking around to look normal, then the problem may work out by itself. If your hamster is walking around hunched up, that indicates a real problem and requires a vet. Even with vet help, though, this is hard to treat. Just don't let your hamster suffer, if these symptoms show up. God luck with your friend.
