My Pekingese is around 15 years old. She is pretty healthy, blood test was fine and EKG looks alright (a little murmur)
Wednesday morning she suddenly had difficulty breathing, she became unconcious. We gave her CPR, and she went back to normal. Then we took her to the vet, and the vets all thought it's because she was covered in the blanket, so she had hard time breathing.
Then thursday morning, she went to the backyard to poo, and while she was pooing, she suddenly just passed out again. We hurried and gave her another CPR, and she's back to normal again.
So Thursday all day we left her with the vet. They did EKG and it looked normal, so the vets thought it might be asthma or just allergy. However, when we went to pick her up, maybe she got too excited, she started breathing very hard, panting. So the vets hurried and took an x-ray, and it looks like the smaller airway in her lungs kinda shrunk. So they gave her several injections to open up the airways, and put her in oxygen container.
Since that afternoon (today is saturday), she's been in the oxygen container. And it seems like everytime we take her out, she start having difficulty breathing again, and her tongue turns purple.
The vets think it's more of a asthma problem than a heart problem. But I don't know why after so many injections, we didn't see big improvement in her breathing problem, and seems like it got worse (or stays the same). Is it because she might have injured her lungs the first two times, so she needs time to recover, that's why she's not responding well to the injections? or it's some other problems (heart?)?
What's the best thing to do right now? because of the breathing problem, she's not eating too much. And since she's very attached to us, she can't sleep well in the hospital. Thus this will probably also affect her recovery time.
Should we give her ultrasound exam? and what will the result tell us? Will surgery be needed? what kind of surgeries?
I guess the most important question now is what should we do? I don't think it's a good idea to just sit and wait for her to get better because the more time we wait, the more time we waste.
Please Please give me some advice and suggestions. I really apprecite it. Also, why will the condition get worse after we took her to the vet? was it because she got too excited for too long, and it made the condition worse? (her heartbeat yesterday was normal, today was around 180)
