Underweight cat - want homeo./holistic help

I have an older (neutered male) cat approx. 18 yrs old. Last few months he has been getting very thin, however his appetite is great, he is constantly asking me to feed him but he cannot seem to keep flesh on him, he is very skinny and I can feel his spine easily when I pet him! I thought maybe 'worms' but doesn't the belly usually get enlarged with worms? His belly is not rounded or anything. Most of the time his stools seem ok but once in a while he'll have diarrhea, and it's yellowish. His fur is quite soft and silky, not dry, only a small bit comes out when I pet him. (he's shorthaired) Now I must say that years and years ago my mom and I used to live in a crappy apartment and we had access to the basement and down there was very dusty, and Cricket used to go down there and roll in the dust, looking back on it my mother suspects that this dust was ASBESTOS dust, as it was around the boiler, now this may sound weird/farfetched but is it possible that he could have inhaled/ingested this and gotten liver damage? Hence the yellow diarrhea? And what can I do? I would prefer to treat him with natural/holistic/homeopathic remedies as I have had bad experiences with allopathic vets (another story!) Anyone have any suggestions about what I could give him?? Thank you to all for your time, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
