Perineal Hernia, PLEASE HELP!

I have a 10 yr old Boston Terrier. Just recently we found out that he has a Perineal Hernia in his anal wall. He has never gone through surgery before and we are really scared about doing it due to his age. Does any one know if we can avoid the surgery, like maybe a holistic treatment or if maybe it can heal itself with time? Please help!!
