Re: acl :cruciate ligament rupture

I work for a Vet that preforms a procedure to correct Anterior Cruicate Ligament ruptures---It's done by extracapsular fabellar suture via lateral suture; basically he puts in a fake ligament--Some Vets with do a procedure called a TPLO where they put in a lot of hardware, if your vet recommends this I would highly advise you get a second opinion because the surgery is much more expensive and I have seen dogs come in that had TPLO surgery done that are having problems tolerating the hardware they put in. The recovery time is up to 6 months, the first month being the hardest because you literally will have to take the dog out on a leash to go to the bathroom then back inside to be confined--this is not to just help heal the ruptured (now fixed) knee but also to prevent them from blowing the other knee. Therapy would merely consist of walks and moving the leg... I have seen many many dogs recover very well from this surgery and it is really not as bad as it seems. :)

: my 6 1/2 Y. old boxer, male went for X-rays. Vet. diagnostice:ACL; needs surgery. Anybody could share some experience of surgery or non conventional treatment ?
: I am worried about the rehab. too.Thank you for any comment. MARTINE
