Re: cat ate dog food for weeksPosted by Treesa (58.163.152.41) on August 10, 2007 at 20:07:28: Hi there - my suggestion, as an animal naturopath, would be to give your cat a homeopathic remedy called Nux vomica, which is a 'detox' for ingested poisons, and also aids digestion etc. You would need the potency of 6C ideally; (30C would be okay) and give this to your cat three times daily for a couple of days. One could assume that there was a particular ingredient(s) within the dog food that did not suit your cat - if her symptoms continue, or she develops any new behaviours/symptoms etc, you might need to investigate the ingredients more closely; perhaps with the aid of a veterinary professional. Could I also suggest to you that raw, natural food is best for cats, and anything coming out of a package doesn't fit the bill :-) We feed our cat a holistic cat food. We recently bought a new bag and noticed that the shape of the food had changed but thought little more about it. However, within a few days our cat started exhibiting problems with bowel movements, and howling occasional (unprompted) cries of pain. She is normally a very quiet cat. We thought she might have eaten a mouse or something, but it continued. It took us about 3 weeks to come to the conclusion that it was the food. We took it back to the pet store and they confirmed it was dog food in a cat food package! So my question is, what harm might our cat have suffered as a result of eating dog food? I know that canines and felines have very different dietary needs. Thank you. Follow Ups: |
