Giardia in Adult Dog

My 12 year old Golden Retriever appears to have Giardia. We have been treating him with alopathy but he continues to have a dark brown and very smelly diarreah and lots of gas. A friend recommended Calcarea Phos. for infections with liquid loss. His immune system is weak and he may have a kidney problem too. Also had two toes removed surgically due to a malignant tumor earlier this year. Any advice?
