I am thinking of a stallion but an open to hearing the virtues of a mare. : A paint horse is a color bred they can be either a Quarter horse or Thoroughbred. For Barrel racing you want to stay with a quarter horse, there faster for the short runs and more level headed to deal with. Stay away from a stud horse unless you really know what you are doing, some studs are good enough to be ridden and bred, but like I said it is best to stay away from that. It is totally a preferance to what you like color vs solid they are both Quarter horses. As far as value goes a depends on the breeding and how broke and finished a horse is, a good finished Barrel horse is worth more then a broke trail horse. people want to be able to get on and win. If you are new to horses or just plunked around on a horse but now want to get serious my suggestion is to seek out help from a reputable person who makes there living riding horses, alot of people claim to be trainers and what I have found the people who run there mouths like they know everything are usually the people who know nothing :) good luck barrel racing is fun! Sounds like Shelly is one of those! Follow Ups: |
